How do I install the widget?
If you're using Safari, click the download link. When the download is complete, the widget installer automatically appears. Just click install and that's all you need to do. If you're using a browser other than Safari, click on the download link and when the widget download is complete double click the file to unarchive and open it to show the widget installer.
I just see a message saying "Searching for channel name" but nothing else happens?
You need to update to version 1.4.1 of What's On UK and you will see a friendlier message. However, you probably still won't get the information for the channel you clicked. If your internet connection is working (check this first!) this problem is caused because listings are provided over the internet from a third party provider and sometimes, due to circumstances beyond our control, information isn't available. Problems are usually short lived and normal service is soon resumed. Remember that this is free software so please bear with us when this happens. Luckily, it's a fairly rare event!
Where's ITV?
Due to licensing issues, ITV channels are not available in this widget. If you don't like this then send a suitably angry letter to your local ITV station and sign the petition.
I can't find "insert channel name here". Where is it?
Not all channels are available, however new ones are often added when a new version of the widget is released. If you want a particular channel to be added, send a message to us using the feedback page and we'll see what we can do.
What are the licencing conditions of the widget?
The widget is free to download and use. However, please do not alter it, distribute it or place a link directly to the software download. You are welcome, however, to link to the home page at www.blueroansoftware.co.uk. Apple Inc are permitted to link directly to the download from their Dashboard pages on the Apple web site.
Does What's On UK automatically update itself or tell me when updates are available?
In a word: No. There is a link on the back of the widget that launches the Blue Roan website where you can check for a new version. Updates are usually released every 6 months or so.
Is there a "gadget" of What's On UK for Windows Vista?
No. There are no plans to create a version for environments other than Dashboard on Mac OS X.
The widget hasn't been updated for a long time. What gives?
Yes, it's a fair cop! The widget was last updated several years ago but it's still useful (I use it all the time) although there are plenty of apps out there for iPhone and iPad that may very well be more useful these days. It's amazing how quickly things move on. Because of this, there are no plans to update the widget further although I'd got pretty far with version 2.0 so that may see the light of day at some point.
